NEWPORT (SHROPSHIRE, UK): Newport-based NDP Publicity Services celebrates its 25th anniversary this month.
Established in January 1990 by Neil Perkins, the international sports news agency has operated in 82 countries and every continent of the world in sports as diverse as rallying, enduro racing, rallycross, rugby, fishing, powerboat racing, squash, football, golf, MotoGP and Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games news services.
“The journey began with a contract from Peugeot Talbot Sport to handle the media for the Peugeot GTi Rally Club in the UK and work with the likes of the late Colin McRae and Richard Burns in 1990,” said Perkins of Station Road.
“I have been fortunate to work with many global sporting icons and see places around the world that I could only dream of as a child.”
Perkins has worked for organisers and major teams on 14 Dakar rallies (winning five with Mitsubishi between 2003-2007), over 300 FIA Middle East and World Rally Championship events, many automotive projects and new car launches in the UK and Europe and as the team PR man for the Qatar Marine Sports Federation in global Class 1, Super Boat, H1 and F1 H20 powerboat racing since 2003.
“There are so many memories from that quarter of a century, but the highlights for me must be working with Brazilian soccer legend Pelé in 1994 on the promotion of a soft drink in the UAE, driving the course car in the daunting Caminos del Incas Rally across the Peruvian High Andes in 2009, driving the 1995 London-Mexico Rally in a Ford press car, writing my first book in 1990 and, most importantly, working with so many great people from every corner and social side of the planet.”
NDP Publicity Services is currently working remotely on the 2014 Dakar Rally for Toyota Belgium and several UK-based sporting magazines before Perkins switches his attention to Rally Jeddah at the end of January and the Qatar International Rally in February.
