LSC AT THE TAV SILENCE THEIR NOISY NEIGHBOURS

NEWPORT (Shropshire): Unbeaten league leaders LSC at the Tav hosted their Tavern rivals at Upper Bar on Wednesday night and one 100% record had to give in match four of the new Newport & District Pool League.

The match became one-way traffic from the start and two seven-ball clearances by LSC rubbed salt firmly into the Railway Tavern’s wounds. Greg Heathcote, Paul Cartledge and Ant Heathcote notched up wins for LSC and, even though Andy Lewis fell to his second successive weekly defeat to Adam Stone on this occasion, LSC won both doubles racks to seal a 5-1 win.

Newport Legion kept up their perfect start to the season with a 4-2 win over a stubborn King’s Head B at Chetwynd End. Mick Beech set the away side on their way against Chris Perry, but husband Ian Perry pegged a frame back at the expense of Paul Lucas. Andy Miles and Wayne Dodd made it 1-3 to the away team and Beech and Dodd sealed the two points in frame five. Lucy Hennessey and Lyn Day confirmed an excellent second consolation frame by bouncing Lucas and Miles off the table.

King’s Head A were forced to work hard for a 3-3 draw at Gnosall’s Horns, with home skipper Dai Smith celebrating his 40th birthday on the night.

Market Drayton’s Stag bounced back from last week’s shock defeat to beat the Wheatsheaf without the loss of a single frame. “We came, we saw and they conquered,” said ‘Sheaf spokesman Mark Hodgkinson.

Shakespeare A managed to scrape together four players and earned a 3-3 draw at Junction B, while the Navigation got the better of the Haberdashers Arms, 4-2, in an all-Staffordshire clash. Junction A picked up their first points of the season with a 2-4 away win at lowly Shakespeare B.

Pheasant B continued their climb through the table with a 4-2 victory over the Royal Navy Veterans but the fate of Paul Quinn’s A team was unknown against the Royal Navy Seals in Bellman’s Yard as we closed for press.
