NEWPORT (Shropshire): Entry details are now available for the UAE Desert Challenge, the final round of this year's FIA and FIM Cross Country Rallies World Cups.
The event will be based in Dubai at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) for the second successive season and documentation and scrutineering takes place in Dubai on October 8th-9th.
The official Prologue stage starts on Sunday, October 10th and the traditional desert action through the expansive Arabian Desert begins the following morning, with sections through the vast Empty Quarter, Liwa and Sweihan. The bivouac will be centred deep in the Arabian desert. The event will finish on Friday, October 15th.
The UAE Desert Challenge is open to professional and amateur teams and FIA T1, T2 and T4 category vehicles and enduro motorcycles complying with FIM cross-country series regulations.
The event is now seen as the traditional warm-up for the gruelling Dakar Rally, with the likes of Mitsubishi Motor Sports, Renault France, Mercedes, BMW X-Raid, Team Volkswagen, the Nissan Rally Raid Team and the factory KTM Enduro Rally Team all expected to attend for pre-Dakar testing.
Last year the car category was won for a second successive season by Stephane Peterhansel in his Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution. Fellow Frenchman Cyril Despres won the motorcycle category and duly clinched the FIM Cross-Country World Championship for the first time.
