HAYWARD AND WILLIAMS BATTLE THROUGH
IN 2009 CARLING NEWPORT POOL OPEN
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Aquaduct’s Charlie Hayward and Newport snooker player John Williams were taken to five frames in their second round matches in the 2009 Carling Newport Pool Open, but both managed to make the last 16 line-up.
Hayward faced a stiff challenge from leading female player Irene Whittington and prevailed in the decider, while Williams let slip a 2-0 lead over the King’s Head’s Graham Tigwell before clinching victory in a nervy final rack.
Williams teamed up with former singles champion, Paul Trevor, in the second round of the Worthington’s Newport Doubles Open and the duo managed to dispose of Hayward and his son Luke in three straight frames at the Newport Legion.
It was a similar commanding score line for Andy Potter and Dave Marshall in their second round match against James Searles and Andy Richardson at the Railway Tavern, as the Shakespeare cricketing duo booked their places in next Monday’s last eight doubles’ draw
All remaining ties to date are to be played by this Sunday (August 23rd). Results should be sent by text message to 07831 123153, clearly stating the names of players and the score.
