BEECH AND FARGE ON FIRE IN COORS NEWPORT OPEN
Mick Beech and Colin Farge wrecked Ian and Bob Perry’s chances of retaining the Worthington’s Doubles title. The Legion pair were always in control and managed to eke out a 3-1 win.
Brian Sumner ended Ian Perry’s involvement in this year’s Open altogether with a 3-1 demolition at the King’s Head. The philatelist now heads off to Australia with his chances of reaching the business end of the competition perforated for another year.
Luke Jones made mince meat of James Searles in their first round encounter. Dave Price was ‘mashed’ by Dave Marshall in a matinee fixture at the Railway Tavern, although the LSC skipper did have a black potting chance in the third frame to get back into the game.
A high-spirited Richard Priest dug deep ‘like a mole’ to push Stu Morrey aside in a raucous 3-1 match last Friday night at the Railway Tavern. The majority of the remaining fixtures take place this week.
All first round ties to be played by Monday, July 27th. Results should be sent by text message to 07831 123153, clearly stating the names of players and the score.
