The Fox Fishery
Pave Lane, Near Newport
Shropshire

The Fox Fishery is one of Shropshire’s best-kept secrets.

A three-acre reservoir at Pave Lane, on the outskirts of Newport, the Fox Fishery offers discerning carp anglers the opportunity to catch specimen fish in the peace and tranquillity of the Shropshire countryside, away from the noise and stresses of modern-day Britain.

A restocking programme has been completed to boost the already fine head of quality common, leather, mirror and crucian carp, grass carp, specimen tench and bream, roach, rudd and perch.

1000 small carp and 200 three-inch tench were introduced in June 2010, an extra 18 double-figure mirrors and commons were introduced in 2010, 100 chub were added in October 2010 and seven wels catfish (between 10lbs-26lbs), three tench (7lbs+), two common carp (16lbs+) and two common carp (25lbs+) have also been stocked.

The beauty of the Fox Fishery is its privacy and seclusion. Night fishing is permitted, but the bank in front of the house on the far side is out of bounds for all fishermen and access is only available for three sides of the lake. Anglers are requested to respect the venue and keep noise and lights to an absolute minimum.

The Lake

The reservoir holds numerous double-figure carp and several twenties, with the lake record currently standing at just over 28lbs for a mirror carp last caught in 2008.

There is an excellent head of hard-fighting tench to approximately 9lbs, a large shoal of double-figure bream to in excess of 12lbs and good stocks of crucian carp, roach and perch. Rumours abound that a double-figure barbel and a 20lb-plus pike also reside in the depths….

The reservoir is a vast expanse of water. It has a uniform depth and a good solid bed with minimal weed. In normal summer conditions, it shelves from between 6-8 feet to a second ledge at 15 feet and on to a maximum depth of 17-18 feet in the middle.

There are 16 pegs on the three fishable sides of the lake and anglers are able to take their cars to their chosen fishing area. The pegs are clearly marked and separated by trees, hedges and natural vegetation. There is ample space for bivvies and equipment on all pegs.

A security gate has been fitted at the top of the access road and syndicate members will be issued with a security combination code to gain vehicle access to the pool area.
